In and around Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia, Aug15

In and around Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia, Aug15

In August 2015 I had the opportunity to visit the Republic of Georgia. This Caucus country is a wedge shaped country neatly sitting under Russia and above Turkey.

These images capture a few days I spent in the capital, Tbilisi and a short 1/2 day trip to a UNESCO site featuring two Monasteries (details of this in image notes).

Tbilisi has several faces, from ancient churches and the underlying glue of the Georgian Orthodox Church, the Soviet influence still evident, the Old Town with its mix of colourful buildings interspersed with back alleys of aging, crumbling buildings with flaking paint and time worn doors, to some amazing modern architecture of the Public Service Hall, Bridge of Peace and concert hall to name a few.

Cap this off with a friendly people, public safety and you have a place that provides a wonderful place to explore and photograph the rich tapestry.

34 Hours in Dubai

34 Hours in Dubai

A stopover in Dubai is easily extended to allow time to get a quick overview of the city. It is suggested that summer is not the best season as temperatures of 45C and higher quickly take its toll, no matter how much you drink..

No doubt through a longer time frame more of the everyday aspects of the city could be discovered, but enjoy this quick overview of an amazing modern city that has risen from the Arabian sands.

Winter’s June 2013

Winter’s June 2013

Winters in my location can offer a range of conditions, from freezing cold nights with frosts, to mild and sunny weather that has one wishing that every winter would be like this.

June 2013 rewarded us with some fogs, often a welcome change due to the quietening effect of the water droplets in the air and a weather event that provides some otherwise unobtainable opportunities.
