All the fun of ‘The Fair’

Every year schools run fairs and fetes as fundraising and community building events. In Toowoomba The Glennie School Fair is ranked as a ‘must attend’ event on many people’s annual calendar.

Set in a park-like stetting under shady trees, it attract thousands of visitors. The colour, bustle, stall and even a side-show alley to rival many larger events.

Here is a sampling of what the day is like, from early in the day before the crowds, to the excitement of the rides.

Toowoomba Agricultural Show 2013

Toowoomba Agricultural Show 2013

The Toowoomba Agricultural Show is a big event, drawing exhibitors from across southern Queensland and Northern NSW. While I originally went to photograph people in side-show alley, numbers were so down that this plan was scuttled.

However, there are always interesting things to photograph and here is a small selection. Next year I will be more proactive with the animal exhibitors and work on getting some interesting poses…the people that is.

Boyce Gardens

Boyce Gardens

Boyce Gardens is located in the north-east corner of Toowoomba and covers six hectares. It was originally established as a private garden by leading Toowoomba citizens Leslie and Margaret Boyce over sixty years ago. It was given in trust to the University of Queensland in 1969.

The expertly maintained garden provides a range of vistas and smaller garden ‘rooms’ Plus there is a restored rainforest section in the lower parts of the garden that in a matter of a few steps takes your from a distinctly man-made landscape to one that could be in an isolated corner of a forest..
